Every Friday I’ll be sharing a photo from someplace in my travels.
This week’s photo is from Chenghuang Temple, Shanghai.
Chenghuang Temple, or City God Temple, lies in the heart of Shanghai. It is a popular temple that worships three city gods– Huo Guang, Qin Yubo, and Chen Huacheng, all whom were once either chancellors or generals.
Today, Chenghuang Temple doesn’t just refer to the actual temple complex, but also the traditional bazaar that surrounds the temple. Nicknamed “Yuyan Bazaar”, there are over one-hundred shops in this walled city and many of the buildings are almost a century old. It can become a bit of a maze when trying to find your way, but it’s the perfect place for a stroll, even at night.
