Enjoy The Perfect Holiday With These 5 Tips

Looking for a great holiday with the rest of the gang? Here are some tips to do just that.

  1. Define Your Holiday Emotions

First and foremost, you should take the time to define the type of memories you want to make during your vacation. Does the holiday you are planning entail the level of relaxation, recreation or adventure that you are interested in? Is it in line with your dream vacation? The answer to these questions should inform your decision on whether you need to adjust your plans. What emotions would you like your vacation to inspire? Are you leaning towards something filled with laughter and excitement, connection and adoration or tranquility and peace? Try to focus on the top three emotions that bring you the highest level of happiness, after answering all of the above questions.

  1. Consider Emotions Defined Above

Prioritize the emotions you define above. Be sure to factor them in your decision making. Can you use your daily choices to ensure that these emotions materialize during your trip? Whether its connection, love or excitement, is there something you can do each day to realize them? Does spending time with your kids or playing together help you laugh and enjoy? Even in cold weather, consider playing around in the pool, for instance. Take a moment to ask yourself whether you were able to experience the feelings you wanted, after spending the day with your loved ones.

  1. Take A Breath

You only need a moment to take a breath – something that everyone can do, and which tends to be quite helpful. There’s always so much to do, you will need to get to the airport on time, struggling against other travelers with more luggage than you actually need. Not only do you need to make your way to your gate with your kids in tow, but also make sure that they get a bathroom break when you are in the middle of queuing up at customs! Worst of all, you may even end up spending hours in the airport as a result of a delayed flight. All this is enough to send you spiraling into negative thoughts, wondering why you always have to be on the wrong end of things!

This is why it is so important for you to take a break and just breathe. Breathe in and out through your nose, allowing each breath to take five seconds. Repeat this three times. This way, you can reset your system from the fight or flight response, as it relaxes your nervous system. Afterwards, think about what you will do next, and how you want to feel.

  1. Recharge

If you are tired and exhausted, you will find it very hard to focus on exciting family feelings and staying positive. You need to prioritize yourself, when you start feeling like you’re running on empty after burning the candle at both ends. Take care of yourself first. You will not have anything to give your loved ones if you are running on empty. As such, you need to set apart some time for yourself each day during your holiday.  When you are looking for places to stay on the Isle of Wight consider some options like a spa and local places where you can go to relax and take some time out.

It is important to find the times, each day, to do something that is completely designed to cater to your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing – as good as a massage sounds, it is just not enough. Consider working on a puzzle, reading a book, taking a long bath and/or watching the sunset, after leaving the kids with your partner. To make sure that you can truly relax, free from any distractions, consider staying away from any screens during this time.

  1. Treat Yourself Kindly

You can become exhausted again quite fast, if you end up shouldering too much pressure after unwinding. More importantly, you may start feeling overwhelmed, hurt, angry and upset; thus, taking your focus away from your loved ones. Don’t be too quick to judge yourself; be compassionate with yourself and treat yourself kindly in order to avoid all this negativity.

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes; however, it would be counterproductive for you to lock these feelings inside, feel angry or guilty. Try to remind yourself that you are doing your best – after taking some time for yourself. It is important to remember that your best will not be the same at all times; it actually depends on your energy levels and the circumstances you are dealing with.
