Foto Friday: The Streets of Shanghai

Foto Friday: The Streets of Shanghai

Every Friday I’ll be sharing a photo from someplace in my travels.

This week’s photo is of the streets of Shanghai.

Wandering around Shanghai, the streets were often narrow, dirty and filled with poor wire jobs. Buildings all looked the same, clad in red bricks. The ground level comprised of a variety of small shops with housing on the second and third floors. Families sat outside in the street as their wet laundry hung from the mess of wires above.

I love insights like this into how people live. It’s one of the reasons I’m compelled to keep traveling.

That’s definitely part of it for me too!

Even after living in Shanghai for two years, I’m still amazed that these kind of gritty scenes can exist alongside the ultra-modern skyscrapers and glitzy shopping districts. That contrast is one of the reasons I loved it there so much!

It’s part of why I love Hong Kong so much as well, compared to really clean and sterile places like Singapore.
