FOTO FRIDAY: LANTERNS OF LOVE IN HONG KONG

Every Friday I’ll be sharing a photo from someplace in my travels.

This week’s photo is of lanterns of love in Hong Kong.

Today is the Spring Lantern Festival, which marks the end of Chinese New Year. This day is often known as “Chinese Valentine’s Day”, and this year it coincidentally falls on western Valentine’s Day. Lanterns have sprung up all around town, and many of them have combined Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day into the theme due to the holiday overlap.

The largest display, located along the waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, portrays wedding and love customs from around the world. One of my favorite lanterns was the simple “double happiness” character, glistening as the sun set behind it.
