Most of us have been told from a young age that our breakouts will stop once we are done with puberty. However, adult acne can be even harder to get rid of than teenage spots. Now that summer is coming, holiday trips are mostly planned and one of the worst things that can happen is to have a stubborn breakout while on a trip. Don’t fret! Following our skincare tips you can make sure that vacation acne is a thing of the past.
Pack a good cleanser
In order to prevent acne you need to wash your face with a cleanser. Acne happens because our pores get clogged by dirt and bacteria. They are also more common while we’re traveling since our bodies are less used to bacteria from the places we’re visiting. By cleansing your face twice a day you will be ensuring that your pores will stay nice and clean. Additional idea is to incorporate a hot towel for acne into your routine. Hot towels open up your pores, so if you use one after you cleanse you’ll be guaranteed a fresh acne-free face.
Invest in a good sunscreen
Acne loves to infest dry, flaky skin and sun damaged skin often fits the description. By coating all of the sun exposed skin with a proper SPF you will be saving yourself from acne induced problems. The best thing to do would be to choose a sunscreen that has an SPF factor from 30 and up. Also, if you’re traveling somewhere where you will be sweating a lot or you plan on swimming, buy a sun protection cream which is waterproof.
Moisturiser is your best travel buddy
As previously mentioned, dehydrated skin is acne’s favourite spot in town. While traveling, especially by plane, our skin tends to be more dehydrated than usual. In order to have a healthy glowing face in your holiday photographs, don’t forget to pack a moisturiser. There are a lot of great moisturizers which come in travel sizes so you will have plenty of options to choose from.
Pack a sheet mask
Wherever you intend on going, it’s nice to have a quiet night in a hotel room reserved only for yourself, a glass of wine and a sheet mask. Sheet masks won’t take a lot of space in your luggage, but your skin will be thankful for this self-care moment. There are sheet masks which cater to a lot of different skin types, so make sure to pick one which suits you best.
Don’t use a lot of makeup
If you plan on being out and about the whole day while on a trip, having a face full of makeup may not be the best idea. A lot of base makeup is comedogenic, meaning it clogs your pores leading to breakouts. Having foundation sit on your face for 12+ hours is not ideal for acne prone skin. Our advice would be to either ditch makeup completely for the duration of your holiday or to buy products which are non-comedogenic.
Bring a spot treatment with you
Sometimes we can really try our best and follow all of the prevention methods but acne still shows its ugly face. If this happens, the only power you have is to try and treat it and maybe even pray it goes away. There are some extremely powerful spot treatments on the market and thankfully most of them are in small enough packaging so you can bring them with you if you are flying. However, if you forget to bring an acne treatment there’s a solution. You may want to crush a couple of aspirin tablets and mix them up with honey and apply topically. This travel life hack has been credited for a lot of acne-free faces.
