WE’VE MOVED TO CHICAGO!

For the past three years, whenever I’d meet people on the road, I’d tell them I was from Chicago.

In reality, I was actually from a small suburb almost an hour away, but I never really felt like explaining that to people when only a handful even knew where Chicago itself was.

It was just easier that way.

And as much as I loved the city, I’d sadly really only get to visit it maybe two or three times per year– usually around Christmas time and then again in the summer for one of its many festivals.

But now, that’s changed. I’m officially a real Chicagoan!

~~Cue celebration dance!~~

After debating on where our next home base would be for what feels like forever, we’ve finally settled on Chicago. In fact, I’m writing this from our new apartment right now!

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it time and time again, I never plan on being nomadic. Despite traveling Europe for six weeks and then Central America for another six weeks almost right after, I need a home base.

I like collecting souvenirs from our travels and I like being able to return to my own bed after a long trip. I like having a home.

And now, since moving out of our last home in Hong Kong six months ago, we finally have a new home here in Chicago.

I know what many of you are probably thinking– why Chicago?? What about Asia??

While I’d love to someday move out west to somewhere like San Francisco which is filled with Asian culture, or even further west all the way back to Hong Kong or Japan, those options just didn’t make sense for us financially right now.

So instead we decided to base ourselves in the city we had always claimed to be from, back where most our friends and half of our family lives.

But that doesn’t mean I’m done with Asia!

It’s still my passion and area of focus, plus the other half of our family still lives there as well. Luckily, O’Hare has plenty of non-stop flights from here to most major Asian cities, so I still plan to take a few trips there per year.

And in between those trips I plan on seeing more of my home country (something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now), seeking out places of Asian culture outside of Asia, and exploring this fabulous city I now call home.

Before we even moved to the city, I actually was an events curator for here. Each week I’d find tons of cool events going on that we could never attend due to living so far away– but now that we’re minutes away from Millennium Park there’s no excuses! I know there’ll be plenty here to keep us busy.

There’s even a fair amount of Asian cultural events that I’ll be getting involved in here, so you’ll see me writing more about those as well.

Yes, moving to Chicago will be a bit of a change, but it’s one I’m finally ready and excited to embrace!

So for now from Chicago with love,

Beth x
