Back when I was in Kuala Lumpur, I had decided to take a day trip to visit the charming city of Melaka. While it seems many of you have been there as well, a lot of people began asking me for new side trip ideas from KL.
A new interesting place to explore, and one not frequented by tourists, is Bandar Sunway!
Located halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang, Bandar Sunway makes for an easy side trip from either of those cities.
Filled with hotels of Western standards, tourist attractions and a large amusement park, Bandar Sunway caters to local and international visitors alike.
With Malaysia being tropical, one of the main draws of Sunway is the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.
This area was once a tin mine and quarry, but today it’s a themed waterpark with over 80 attractions, including a wildlife park filled with indigenous and international animals.
Beat the heat at the largest man-made surfing attraction in the world or take a wild ride down some of the fastest and must intense water slides in all of Malaysia. Currently the park is ranked fifth for Asia’s best waterparks.
Once you’ve had your fill in the sun, get some shade by heading inside the Sunway Pyramid Mall.
If you’ve explored the area a bit, you probably saw an interesting building with a large pyramid and sphynx out front. This was Malaysia’s first themed mall and first shopping complex with a skating rink. A part from the ice rink you’ll also find a large cinema complex, bowling alley and many shops and dining options.
You’ll be able to find plenty of Western food options, including major fast food chains like McDonalds and KFC — but you all know I love Malaysian food, so be adventurous and try some at any of the fabulous hawker centers near by!
Take some time to marvel at the fun Egyptian theme throughout the mall and stare up at the two domes in the entrance. The first done is orange, to represent the sun, while the second is blue representing the Nile River.
If you have even more time to explore, some of the other attractions nearby include the famous Blue Mosque, the picturesque Theau Hou Temple, KidZania Kuala Lumpur perfect for families. All of these are easily visited by taxi or bus and some of them even have shuttles from the hotel. You can check out the tourism board’s website for even more ideas on fun things to do and how to get around.
Sunway has plenty of safe hotel options for all budgets. Looking for Sunway hotels with the most competitive rates? It’s easy using a site like Traveloka.
By inputing just a few simple search queries, you’ll be able to find exact matches for your needs in minutes.
So there you have it! Nothing should be stopping you from spending a few days in Sunway. This location is absolutely perfect for solo travelers and families alike, so make sure to include it in your itinerary!
